Drop in and learn how to manipulate code to create exciting animations, procedural drawings and code-based generative art with Damien Borowik and Chris Follows of Digital Maker Collective, supported by Marta Śron.
1. Procedural drawing
Learn how coding works using pen and paper by choosing from a set of pre-made instructions.
This activity is open to all, it is advised for young children to be guided by a parent or older sibling.
2. Make your own code
After following the steps provided to make a procedural drawing, write your own set of instructions to guide someone else to make a drawing. Keep the instructions clear and simple. Start by suggesting the size and shape of canvas, then proceed with the instructions one after the other.
3. Prompt Claude.ai
Use your set of instructions to create a prompt for Claude.ai to create code in P5.JS code. Start the prompt with "create a p5.js code from the following instructions:". Once Claude has finished writing the code, copy and paste to editor.p5js.org then run the code by pressing the play button.
4. Ask for help, iterate or start again
You can ask Claude.ai about the code it has written for you, ask it to modify some aspect of the artwork it creates, or you may want to start again with a completely new set of instructions. Don't forget to ask Chris or Damien at anytime, they are here to help.
