DMC Knowledge Exchange & informal R&D

Tate Exchange 2017-2020:

Since becoming a founding Tate Exchange associate in 2017. The DMC have delivered three large scale public events which actively engaged over eight thousand visitors, and collaborated with hundreds of UAL students, staff and alumni as well as sector/industry partners and community organisations.

  • In 2017 we aimed to uncover and highlight the hidden digital making activities happening within art school with the event: Digital Making Arts School 
  • In 2018 the DMC explored digital making art school practice in more detail and asked how this work could change the art school and shape the future of work: Arts Work of The Future 
  • In 2019 we collaborated with many partners in order to look beyond the art school and technology and put societal issues first, through exploring socially engaged practice: Beta Society.
  • For 2020 DMC and guests will demystify and unpack the creative power of the tech industries, exploring the world of creative tech startups. Uni to Unicorns

Beta Society 2019

Between the 5-10 March 2019 the Digital Maker Collective, invited guest contributors and our community partners to campaign for a Beta Society. 

This week-long event aimed to establish a new community of creatives, students, industry and public, exploring social mobility and citizen-centered innovation through a digital lens. Arts Work of the Future 2018

In March 2018, the Digital Maker Collective transformed the Tate Exchange, 5th floor of Tate Modern into a large public tech innovation hub, a six day residency entitled ‘Arts Work of the Future’.  

What does Knowledge Exchange mean to you?

The event saw a series of public facing projects which included drop-in style working spaces where the public got involved in rapid prototyping, discussions around artificial intelligence, virtual reality and environmental issues. Their work was presented alongside global collaborators from Russia, Ireland and Denmark attracting over 4000 visitors and national press coverage.
