DMC Creative Tech Meet-Ups & Beta Society, Tate Exchange Meet-Ups

We've had a really productive week and start to the new year! Many thanks all those who have contributed to DMC & Beta/Tate planning meetings.

To be clear we are running 2 sets of meet ups at present:

DMC Creative Tech Meet-Ups:

These are the day-to-day DMC meet ups, creative tech interest groups who meet to share creative practice interests around technology.  We have 3 interest groups Hybrid Technologies, Extended Reality, Machine Learning. These DMC groups should continue to meet and talk tech and creative practice, but save some time in the agenda to talk about Tate involvement, but please don't let it overtake the tech practice meet-up.

Beta Society, Tate Event Meet-Ups:

The Beta Society meet ups are specifically for developing this new initiative/project exploring SOCIAL MOBILITY & Social Engaged Practice and the Tate Exchange launch event. Those involved in DMC meet-ups are encouraged to collaborate across groups together on developing activities, debate, interventions for this Tate Exchange event. We will then start collaborating with communities, industries and other partners.

What is Social Mobility?

Social mobility is the movement of individuals, families, households, or other categories of people within or between social strata in a society. It is a change in social status relative to one's current social location within a given society.

Tate Exchange Project Plan:

Please see below a project plan for how we aim to approach and develop the Tate Exchange Beta Society project over the next two months:

What to bring for the next meeting:
Please bring in a selection of small objects and materials. (note- the 3d scanner will only be able to scan objects roughly the same size of a phone- so the smaller the objects the better and please be prepared for them to be cut up and take the new formation of a DMC member's avatar!)

Documenting DMC

Please be aware documenting the DMC and our journey is an important part of what we do and the documentation has helped us gain lots of support and interest over the years. Sharing our progress, what we do with others is very important in terms of visibility. Therefore:

  • Photo and video documentation will be taken at all UAL meetups and shared on social media, within UAL spaces. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed please let us know before the sessions/meeting, we will make sure to try and avoid you or obscure you from view, we may need to include the back of head etc.
  • For meet-ups outside UAL, we will seek your approval and in venues such as Tate they will have their own policy on documentation in the public space.
  • If the DMC are working with non-UAL staff, students and alumni we must seek approval before documenting any activities & events.

Many thanks for your contribution to the DMC and helping us share what we do with others.
