Experiencing your Plastic Future: Presenting a multisensory underwater environment representing two alternative futures – continuing the current path, or changing to a sustainable path. The audience are invited to participate in changing the installation by making choices about their use and waste of plastics.
Khyrham will be presenting live Zooplanton he has cultured, to the public, using two microscopes lent by Marylebone Boys’ School seeing how they respond to microplastics in samples of Thames water he collects himself.
The audience are also invited to make packaging choices and to admit their recent plastics behaviour and are invited to add cardboard fish that have ingested plastic or healthy fish that are suitable for food, to the installation.
The left side of the installation will show the plastic build up and toxic results of non-recyclable, non-compostable plastics. The right side shows the healthy for the sustainable future.
Pascale and Nur will introduce sustainability issues, tackled by the invited speakers, growing bioplastics from bacteria, making and using compostable plastics, the issues of plastics in our oceans, machines for cleaning up the ocean floor and more.
The appearance of the installation and the multi-sensory aspects, light, sound, and scent, and the setting up, have been contributed to by 5 artist/collaborators including Eunji from Wimbledon who is a theatre and show designer from Wimbledon.
The multi-sensory nature of the installation links with Thibaud Lecluse participatory talk around sensory disabilities and heightened sensory perception with non visual stimuli.
Programme & Activities:
